Natas Pastries

Natas Pastries

When I’m in the mood for a petite, flaky pastry, the Sherman Oaks gem Natas Pastries often springs to mind. Specializing in their namesake, the Portuguese “pasteis de nata,” these custard-filled puff pastry shells are the perfect combination of crispy and creamy decadence. While the traditional nata is filled with a crème brûlée-like custard, I’m especially fond of their specialty natas, like their variation filled with almond paste with a drizzled garnish of chocolate. Chef and owner Fatima Marques, originally from Lisbon, Portugal, has certainly fulfilled her goal of bringing Portuguese baked goods to Los Angeles, and it’s clear why the shop – which also offers a full sit-down breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu – has become such a staple for locals – Portuguese and non-Portuguese alike!
