Ginger is one of my very favorite spices, and I see no reason to limit gingersnaps or gingerbread men to Christmastime. This recipe from Ethiopian-born, Swedish-raised chef Marcus Samuelsson embraces everything I love about a good ginger cookie - the warmth of the cardamom, the kick of the white pepper, and that perfect, buttery crispness on their well-timed exit from the oven. What really brings this recipe to life is the addition of candied orange peel -- though I (again, an admitted ginger nut) have been known to substitute even that with candied ginger instead!
