I’ve shared my love of Scandinavian baked goods before (see Olson’s and Hygge), and there’s something truly wonderful about the buttery decadence available at Culver City’s Danish bakery, Copenhagen Pastry. Baked freshly throughout the day, the tiny shop – there’s no room for seating, and hardly standing room when there’s a crowd! – offers deliciously flaky treats that are Danish, through and through. Featuring a variety of fillings from custard, to almond paste, to hazelnut cream, pastries like impeccable Nougat Crowns, Spandauers, and Kransecakes will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, while savory Morning Rolls and Copenhagen’s famous Danish Wholegrain Rye Bread are the perfect complement for any “smørebrød,” or open-faced sandwich. The bakery’s Rye Bread can even be ordered online, and the densely chewy loaf will last for ages when refrigerated (assuming you don’t wolf it down straight away)!
