As the summer dwindles to a close, perfectly grilled hotdogs definitely seem like they're in order. Renowned chef and native Angeleno Neal Fraser (of the delicious BLD, the former Grace, and the forthcoming Redbird -- for which, on a side note, I can hardly contain my excitement!) excels in pairing premium meats with locally baked buns at Fritzi Dog, his hotdog stand located in the historic Original Farmer's Market at The Grove. The restaurant has a "No Junk" policy, and though their array of available toppings like crispy onions, sriracha ketchup, and cilantro lime dressing are delectable and made from beautifully fresh ingredients, Fraser's emphasis is clearly on the meats, all of which are free of antibiotics, hormones, and nitrates, as well as the freshly baked, preservative-free buns that serve as vessels for these superior dogs. With both gluten free and vegetarian options, as well as garnished fries, tater tots, and combo sides galore, this is a stand to entice all varieties of hotdog aficionados. Slap a beef and pork dog on a pretzel bun with jalapeño relish and sweet mustard - known at Fritzi as the "Venice Dog" -- and this gal is good to go!
