Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes

by Mary-Catherine Mellon

Roald Dahl is one of my all-time favorite authors. From the tenderness of James and Giant Peach to the terror of The Witches, his books never failed to transport and enthrall me as a child, and they still hold the same magic for me to this day. Consequently, one of my favorite activities growing up was bringing to life the dishes from Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes, which is an incredible guide to creating the foodie delights mentioned in Dahl's tales, as interpreted by chef friends of Dahl's second wife, Felicity. Impossible fantasy treats like the Lickable Wallpaper from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the deliciously refreshing Frobscottle from The BFG became semi-regular foods and drinks in my house, and seem appropriately magical once again for the month of October.
