Cliff’s Edge on Sunset Blvd. has been a Silver Lake institution for over a decade, and its fresh, local, rustic, Modern California cuisine-centric menu clearly embodies a genuinely “Eastside” sensibility. The restaurant’s enormous centerpiece of a tree paired with the tiered levels of seating adorned with fairy lights also lend its outdoor patio a magical, grotto-like feel – amazing, knowing Sunset Junction is bustling right outside the restaurant’s foliage-covered walls. Chef Vartain Abgaryan’s menu deftly employs his Le Cordon Bleu French culinary training, and dishes are plated with an elegance that transforms them into art - parsnips roasted in duck fat, are served with date puree and garnished with crème fraîche, spiced vinaigrette, and fresh and crisp herbs with expressionist, Pollack-like flair; crispy coriander-crusted octopus is served with bright rounds of tomatoes; Cook’s Ranch pork chops are served on concentric circles of smoked pork jus with Calabrian chile and summer peaches. And simple, timeless staples like freshly baked Parker House rolls, marinated olives, and a selection of artisanal cheeses round out these beautifully creative main dishes as perfectly complementary small bites.
