There is a certain beauty to simplicity in brunch fare – a perfect piece of toast topped with delicious ingredients can speak the world of a restaurant’s culinary vision. To me, this thoughtfulness is embodied remarkably well by Superba Food + Bread in Venice – no surprise, coming from entrepreneur and Pitfire Pizza founder Paul Hibler. With its focus on “living well,” the ever-packed restaurant offers a clean and comforting array of food from breakfast and brunch to lunch and supper. With its now-synonymous grain bowl topped with a slow cooked egg, pickles, collard slaw, and cashews (and the option -- in my book mandatory -- to add avocado); elegant toast pairings like “jam of the week with ricotta” or “maple custard with bacon confit and crispy sage;” as well as its stellar pastry case, Superba is one of my favorite spots to savor a glass of cold rosé on a late Saturday morning while sharing plate after plate of truly “superb” food.
