I have to admit that I was initially skeptical at the idea of using squid ink in a cocktail, but after reading this article on Eater.com, I was sold at the idea of making a spooky yet delicious mixed drink. “The Kraken,” developed by The Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia, is a fascinating combination of flavors that you’d almost think wouldn’t go together – vodka, Pinot Grigio, yuzu, and limoncello! – but somehow magically do.
In a shaker, combine:
2 oz Ketel One Vodka
1 ½ oz Pinot Grigio
½ oz Limoncello
¾ oz Yuzu Japanese Citrus Juice
1 ¼ oz Agave Nectar
¼ teaspoon Squid Ink
Shake very well for 20-30 seconds. Double strain into a martini glass, garnish with a long, thin lemon zest, and enjoy!
