Tucked in a little, unassuming strip mall on Franklin Ave. near the onramp of the Hollywood Freeway lives an adorable bistro called Papilles. Named after the French word for "tastebuds," the casual yet elegant restaurant embodies the Parisian "bistronomique" approach of serving elegantly beautiful food in a non-pretentious environment. With their seasonal menu and emphasis on local produce, the restaurant's wine list and prix fixe menu (when last I went, this included Celariac and apple veloute; Foie gras torchon; Duck breast with smoked beets, radish, mission grapes, and hazelnuts; and Banana prawns with artichoke barigoule, cranberry beans, and tomato) make Papilles a wonderful, local spot for a delicious French meal.
