I adore good Vietnamese cuisine, and gingergrass in Silver Lake often fits the bill when I'm craving such dishes. The fresh, perfectly cooked fare always hits the mark, from the lightly fried, crispy calamari, to the more unusually regional taro fries (my personal favorite is the Animal Fries, served with grilled onion, chilies, aioli, cilantro, and shallots), I’m never disappointed watching this local favorite fill up as lunchtime draws near. Though I don’t usually partake of noodle dishes, gingergrass’s bun noodle bowls are to die for, the vermicelli offering the ideal base for cucumbers, sprouts, pickled vegetables, and meat (again, my preference being the Beef Rib Eye). I’m thrilled to know, too, that the restaurant has just recently taken over the spot formerly held by the Lazy Ox downtown, meaning that I can grab a delightful Vietnamese bite wherever my daily commute may take me.
