I enjoyed my semi-recent breakfast at Destroyer so much I couldn’t want to sneak back on a lunch hour to sample their afternoon menu (knowing that a weekend lunch is simply impossible, given the restaurant’s Monday through Friday schedule!). My party and I decided to take advantage of our rare dining opportunity by ordering the entire menu (note, this is far too much food for three people!), of which the Beef Tartare with smoked egg cream, pickled mushroom, and chicory; and the Chicken Confit with Yukon gold potato, aged cheese, yuzu, and hazelnut were my favorites. The complex dishes are plated in a manner that transforms them into genuine works of art, and, having snagged three small tables in a precious bit of shade, we thoroughly enjoyed our journey through the restaurant’s menu. Knowing Chef Kahn’s skilled past as a heralded pastry chef, I never resist (no matter how full I am!) sampling his dessert offerings – and the Bavarian cream with English toffee and baked apple (which comes wrapped unexpectedly in sorrel) was beyond stellar.
