Plan Check Kitchen + Bar
One of my favorite Westside burger joints is Plan Check Kitchen + Bar (and I was thrilled when they expanded with locations Downtown and in Hollywood!). Named as a nod to the flagship restaurant’s architecture and design-centric neighbor – the Building and Safety Department – its emphasis on comfort food, cocktails, and craft beer make it an easy choice when I’m in the mood for a hearty sandwich and a perfect drink. My personal favorite dish is the “Bleuprint Burger,” with smoked bleu cheese, “pig candy” caramelized bacon, fried onions, roasted garlic steak sauce, and peppercress; and the Southern Fry with smoky fried Jidori chicken, spicy green pimento cheese, duck breast ham, and pickles hits the spot when I’m craving outstanding fried chicken. The signature Plan Check Burger includes Ketchup Leather™, which is both brilliant and delicious, and lends an air of culinary innovation and novelty to Plan Check’s small plate-oriented menu.
