Scratch Bar & Kitchen (lunch)
I’m a noted fan of Chef Phillip Frankland Lee‘s modern, inventive cuisine, and have previously enjoyed his seasonally inspired, family-style, dinnertime tasting menu at Scratch Bar & Kitchen on Ventura Boulevard. Thankfully, the restaurant is a mere stone’s throw from my brother’s office, so my family just recently met up to partake of its daytime offerings during his lunch break. Whether we’re in the mood for a traditional-yet-elevated cheeseburger, or something more unusual (like my personal favorites, the dirty rice with crispy pork belly and salmon sashimi; or the steak tartare with a gorgeously seared egg yolk), the restaurant’s lunch menu approach is diverse, easily satisfying each of my family members’ tastes and making for the perfect spot at which we adore sharing a midday bite.
