With the first day of summer just two short days away, I clearly have barbeque on the brain. As a sucker for monikers, décor, and chipotle glazed ribs, a favorite spot of mine in the Valley is Boneyard Bistro, chef and owner Aaron Robbins’ Sherman Oaks tribute to his North Carolinian barbeque roots. Known for their extensive craft beer menu, wallop-packing cocktails, and eighteen-hour hickory smoked meat, Boneyard’s barbeque side of the menu is my personal preference, and its Slow Hickory Smoked Pork Baby Back Ribs truly seem to melt off the bone. The bistro side of the menu is, however, equally tempting -- with its enormous “O.M.G” beer battered onion rings, kobe beef chili-filled donuts, and classic steaks, chops, and burgers. The restaurant's loosely-based underworld theme certainly tickles my fancy – my favorite drink on the menu is the Sympathy for the Devil (smoked habanero infused Fidencio Mezcal, rye whiskey, lemon juice, and agave syrup, served on the rocks), and I’ll almost definitely have to try the Burn in Hell Burger (served with poblano and jalapeno chiles, habanero aioli, a side of “cooling” sour cream, and a caution of “WARNING! EXTREMELY SPICY! NO MERCY! NO REFUNDS!) on my next visit!
